In 2006 Paul Powis and Sara Hayward were awarded a printmaking residency in Venice, supported by the Venice Cultural Department, at the Large Format Print Studio on the Fondamente Nuove. Sara Hayward, who studied printmaking at the Royal College of Art, works as a fine artist as well as an illustrator. Sara has continued her printmaking work during her recent residency at Worcester Porcelain Museum, and she runs several printmaking workshops. Both she and Paul have lectured at colleges and universities. Paul Powis also works as a fine artist and illustrator and has recently become more involved in fine art publishing. He exhibits internationally with shows in Europe and the USA. Both Sara and Paul are represented by the illustration agency Eye Candy.

SARA HAYWARD EXHIBITION - Worcester 08

An exhibition of paintings, prints (etchings & monotypes), digital work and video installation, created by Sara Hayward RCA. Creative work inspired by the 250 year old porcelain collection, all produced at the Museum during the duration of her 10 month Artist Residency at Worcester Porcelain Museum.   On view for the first time are  "The Worcester Etchings" a suite of six prints directly inspired by the still life etchings of seventeenth century Dutch Master Rembrandt Van Rijn. Using tewntieth century sustainable processes, saline copper sulphate on aluminium, the etchings use the same compositional format and intense cross hatching as used by Rembrandt. The exhibition seeks to encourage a debate about contemporary digital processes and older methodology.

Storm In A Teacup - Worcester Porcelain Museum
"I was delighted to learn recently that I have been successful in an application to the Leverhulme Trust for a grant for the funding for an artist residency at Worcester Porcelain Museum during 2007. I intend to utilise my skills as a contemporary printmaker, setting up an etching press, and developing the relationship between drawing, painting and printmaking. I am hoping to draw inspiration from both the former workers of Royal Worcester and the extensive ceramics collection of the Worcester Porcelain Museum. The making of a video of the complete experience is also being planned. The residency will run for ten months with numerous workshops, and a final exhibition." Sara Hayward, January 2007.
